We are confident in our ability to diagnose the following treatable conditions.  Additionally, we recognize some people may experience aspects of more than one of these conditions.  We list these diagnoses with the current terminology, but we do not approve of the term "disorder" to describe what we believe to be more nuanced and to include gifts as well as limitations.

ADHD Combined Type, Primarily Inattentive Type and Primarily Hyperactive/Impulsive Type

Anxiety Disorders, including Generalized, Social, Phobic, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and OCD

Mood Disorders including Dysthymic, Bipolar I, Bipolar II and Post Partum

Learning Differences including Dyslexia, Math, Social, Sensory Integration and Language Disorders.Developmental Disorders including Pervasive Developmental Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorders

Even though we will be thorough and examine details, we will work with your strengths and we will think outside of the box when needed.  Many problems do not fit easily into some kind of syndrome or diagnostic category.  Rather, people struggle with a variety of phenomenon like anxiety, mood issues, insomnia, irritability, physical pain and problems concentrating.  They may feel stuck and hopeless.  We are interested in pinpointing manageable problems and working together toward resolution.

The First Meeting

If you are a parent with concerns about your son or daughter, we take special care to provide a thorough assessment from the beginning.  After making introductions, your child will be asked about what their friends and family members like the most about them.  Afterward, you will be asked to supplement these descriptions with what you think his or her friends enjoy as well as what you like about your child

If you are seeking consultation as an adult, you will be asked the same kind of questions.

The rationale for beginning this way is the belief that each person has a history of experiences with others separate and distinct from any presenting problems.  It is only after strengths and abilities are sufficiently discussed that the main reason for the consult is asked.

Before any meeting, please register with the office for a secure portal account.  This will be used to request detailed information that will be available ahead of time and at your meeting.  Additionally, for your initial meeting he will ask a comprehensive set of questions about various phenomenon associated with learning, behavior and brain functioning.  These questions are based on a growing base of scientific knowledge and are related to various treatable problems.  Once this information is available, we will discuss more precisely what may be happening and how best to address your concerns.

We then settle on a plan, identify how we will know it is working, discuss benefits and risks and continue to reassess.  You may opt for individual, family or some combination of talk therapy, medication, or complementary/alternative approaches.
